12 · Meet Your Hosts
We grew up ten miles apart, left for London, and came home the moment we could. The Salt House began as my grandmother's fishing cottage; we rebuilt it slowly, keeping her doorstep and her view.
We're the WhatsApp on your phone and the hamper on your counter. Ask us for the hidden sea pool at low tide, the fisherman who sells from his boat on Thursdays, and the table at The Mermaid nobody's told the internet about.
"We host the way we wish hotels felt — present when you need us, invisible when you don't."

The House
Cedar, lime plaster and glass on the headland above Porthgwen — rebuilt in 2023 around one idea: every room should know where the sea is.
The house works in layers. Sociable and open where you gather; hushed and linen-soft where you sleep.
The ground floor is one long, light-filled room — kitchen at the heart, dining for twelve, and a sunken snug around the wood-burner. Sliding glass opens the whole southern wall to the terrace, so summer meals drift outside without anyone deciding they should.
Upstairs, four bedrooms look over the water; on the ground floor, The Dune suite offers step-free comfort with an accessible wet room. Hallways are wide, thresholds are level, and the housekeeping is hotel-grade — without ever feeling like a hotel.
Sleeping
The whole top floor. Super-king bed facing the picture window, freestanding bath in the room, walk-in shower, dressing area and a writing desk with the best view in the house.
Ground floor, step-free from the drive. King bed in sage and oat linen, garden doors, and an accessible wet room with grab rails and a fold-down seat.
King bed (zip-and-link — happily twins on request), window seat over the cove, shared use of the limestone bath house across the landing.
A calm king room in dune tones, and the cabin bunk room — two full-size singles, ship's ladders, reading lamps and a porthole the children will fight over.
Floor Plans
Plans indicative, not to scale. Full measured plans are in the digital guidebook you receive after booking.
Outside
South-west facing and sheltered by the headland, the terrace holds the cedar hot tub, a kamado grill, the outdoor kitchen and a dining table for twelve under festoon lights. Below it, the wild garden runs to the coast path gate.
The fire pit sits in its own stone circle with driftwood benches — logs, kindling and marshmallow forks provided, obviously.
Cedar hot tub · seats 7
Fire pit circle · logs included
Kamado grill & outdoor kitchen
Beach store · boards & wetsuit rinse
Wild garden · enclosed for dogs
Coast path gate · straight to the cove
Ready when you are.
Gallery
Forty-eight frames from the house and the cove — drone, interiors, and the blue hour between.

Things To Do
Twelve things worth leaving the hot tub for — chosen by your hosts, tested on every guest who's asked.
Best swimming two hours either side of high water. Sample data — live feed connects at launch.
Your cove. White sand, gin-clear water, and a low-tide sea pool cut into the rocks on the southern end.
Consistent beach break for learners and long-boarders. Porthgwen Surf School does private family lessons; boards and wetsuits live in our beach store.
The Mermaid for day-boat fish over the harbour wall; The Wreckers for Sunday lunch; Sennen's chippy eaten on the sea wall, always.
Driftwood for flat whites and saffron buns; the bakery queue moves fast and is worth it. Hot chocolate shack on the beach in winter.
Evening mackerel trips, seal colonies off Gull Point, and — on the luckiest days — dolphins riding the bow wave.
The South West Coast Path runs through our garden gate. North to the lighthouse (90 min round), south to the smugglers' cove (half day, take a picnic).
Saturday mornings: bread, cheese, pottery and the man who smokes his own mackerel. Go early, buy more than you planned.
Cornwall's slate-soil sparkling, tasted on a terrace above the vines. The tour ends in the cellar; the taxi is a good idea.
A proper links — dunes, sea wind and greens that break toward the Atlantic. Guests get member rates on weekdays.
Wrasse and pollock off the rocks, mackerel from the quay at dusk, or a half-day charter for the serious. Rods in the boot room.
Sub-tropical valley gardens running down to a private beach, and moorland tors with 360° views for the leggier afternoons.
Rock-pooling at low tide, crabbing lines off the harbour, pizza night at the fire pit, and the bunk-room cinema when it rains.
A Perfect Day
High tide at the cove, then coffee on the terrace while your hair dries.
Coast path to the lighthouse — seals at Gull Point if the sea is calm.
Whatever the day boats landed. Ask for the harbour-wall table.
Rock pools with the children, or the vineyard terrace without them.
Kamado lit, local mackerel, marshmallows for negotiating bedtimes.
The Milky Way is genuinely visible here. The tub is at 38°. Goodnight.
House Rules
Few rules, kindly meant — they keep the house lovely and the neighbours friendly.
Smoke and CO alarms in every zone, fire blanket and extinguisher in the kitchen, first-aid kit in the boot room, defibrillator at the village hall (4 min walk).
A £500 pre-authorisation is held (not charged) two days before arrival and released within five days of departure — the standard for homes of this kind.
Air-source heating, solar array, B-Corp housekeeping products and a no-single-use-plastics larder. The sea is the whole point; we act like it.

Celebrations & Gatherings
Ten people, one long table, the Atlantic doing the décor. Milestones deserve better than a function room.
Long lunch outside, chef in the kitchen, fireside speeches — 40th to 70th, we've hosted them all.
Three generations, five bedrooms, one washing-up rota. The bunk room settles the cousins.
The thoughtful kind — private chef, coastal sauna trip, vineyard afternoon. Prosecco optional, hot tub not.
Offsites for teams of ten: 900 Mbps fibre, a proper table to think around, and the sea to reset by.
Ceremony on the headland, dinner for ten at the long table. Small on numbers, unreasonably big on feeling.
Fire pit, fizz, and the first swim of the year for the brave. Books out a year ahead — join the list.
Add-on Services
Menus built around the day boats and the walled-garden veg. Dinner from £68pp; weekend residencies available.
Florals, table styling and festoons by a local studio — dressed before you arrive, gone before you leave.
Two golden hours with a Cornwall editorial photographer. Gallery delivered within the week.
Whole-fish kamado feast kit with a pitmaster to run it, or self-drive with our marinades and playlists.
Polgwidden sparkling, Cornish gin bar or zero-proof spritzes, iced and waiting on arrival.
